Christmas Market

Mid-November until January 6th

By tram to Innsbruck for the Christmas Market

The Innsbruck “Bergweihnacht” (Mountain Christmas) impresses guests and locals alike year after year. The alpine backdrop and old-town charm combined with the Christmas markets are a winning formula for the Tyrolean capital. From handicrafts and wool goods to mulled wine, traditional dishes such as Kiachl (fired dough pastry) or Kaskrapfen (traditional dumplings), and homemade Tyrolean pine liqueur, the Christmas markets in Innsbruck offer everything your heart desires.

Christmas magic in the Old Town

Traditional, romantic, and full of atmosphere — that’s how the Christmas season appears in Innsbruck’s Old Town. Right in front of the Golden Roof, the market stalls of the Christmas market nestle against the medieval houses. Food and drink as well as souvenirs or Christmas tree decorations are easy to find and plentiful here.

A special feature of the Old Town Christmas Market is the “Riesengasse” (Giant Alley): in a narrow side street, five giants from different Tyrolean legends take up residence during Advent. The life-sized figures are spread throughout the alley. Another highlight of the market is the “Märchengasse” (Fairy Tale Alley), where various figures from well-known fairy tales can be found.

Light and modernity: Maria-Theresien-Straße

A modern sea of lights welcomes visitors to the Christmas market on Maria-Theresien-Straße. Numerous small trees are decorated with countless twinkling lights. A special eye-catcher: a several-meter-high illuminated rock crystal watches over Innsbruck’s grand boulevard.

If you are on a shopping tour, you’ll definitely find what you’re looking for here: the market offers many special souvenirs, whether from Tyrol or abroad.

The Market Square in Advent

Perfect for families with children: during the Advent season, the Market Square by the Inn River transforms into a Christmas market designed like a Tyrolean village. Attractions for children include a puppet theater, storytelling sessions, and even a carousel.

For parents and other adults, the more than 60 stalls of the market offer plenty to shop, eat, and drink.

Advent atmosphere on the Hungerburg

The best view of Innsbruck's winter scenery can be enjoyed at the panoramic Christmas market on the Hungerburg. You can reach it directly from the city center via the Hungerburgbahn funicular or bus line J.

The market above the rooftops is a bit cozier and offers a pleasant, pre-Christmas calm compared to the hustle and bustle down in the city.

Insider tip: St. Nikolaus

Peaceful, authentic, and contemplative — that’s how you’ll experience Advent at the St. Nikolaus Christmas Market. Cross the Inn River, and you’ll find one of the most beautiful Advent markets in the city. A few market stalls nestle together on the small Hans-Brenner-Platz on Innstraße.

Here Advent shows its best side: with traditional Christmas music and cookies just like grandma used to make.

Christmas magic in Wilten

The Wiltener Platzl — a place visitors fall in love with immediately. It’s the site of a small, cozy Christmas market full of specialties. From organic mulled wine to Sardinian delicacies, everything is there for the culinary adventurer.

Genuine craftsmanship and short live concerts are just as much a part of the program as the puppet theater.

The Kaiser's Christmas at Bergisel

The “Kaiserweihnacht” at Bergisel is a very special Advent market in Innsbruck. The main focus is on showcasing the original, the Tyrolean, and the regional. Local products and Tyrolean craftsmanship take center stage — just as one would hope for from the Imperial Christmas.

For many, it’s a welcome change of pace and a chance to let the soul unwind.
